A new generation is starting their own businesses, blogging, and working at home. There are 10.1 million women-owned businesses in the United States, says the Center for Women's Business Research. No firm statistics exist on how many are run by stay-at-home moms, but it stands to reason that the percentage is increasing in the Wi-Fi age. "Over 90 percent of the moms we've interviewed said the desire for family flexibility is the number-one reason they work from home" . "Another big change we've seen in the past 15 years is acceptance. In the past, moms have been reluctant to tell clients they work from home.  Now it's commonplace, even respectable." Mom-owned businesses, which used to be heavy on arts and crafts, now run the professional gamut, says Parlapiano: Web design, attorney, marketing guru, social media coaching, you name it. blogging about her life—and reaching others Plug "mom bloggers" into a search engine and you'll come up with thousands of SAHMs who chronicle their daily lives online.  Moms share stories and tips about single parenting, adoption, home schooling and more. The most popular blogs, like the Pioneer Woman and Dooce, turned their authors into celebrities who rack up book and movie deals.  Jen Singer, the New Jersey mom of two who created mommasaid.net, says her blog averages 90,000 views per month; it's not a huge moneymaker per se, but it has led to book deals, speaking engagements and endorsement offers—none of which would have happened in the pre-Internet era.  "Mom bloggers are hugely influential because they represent the authentic voices of other moms," says Jennifer James, founder of mombloggersclub.com, a community that's 10,000 strong. Making a living from a blog is tough, she adds, but there are other perks. "Moms who pen really great blogs are heavily courted by brands to review their product," she says. Hottest toys this holiday season!

Thanksgiving is coming up at the end of November, which means that kids are soon to start filling their Christmas lists with all the latest toys. The holiday season is an important time for retail companies as consumers flock to stores and stock up on gifts for friends and family.   It's a major benchmark for stores like TripleClicks, Best Buy, Amazon and Target, but it's just as important for the companies making the products.   
With that in mind, here's a look at the toys, games and gadgets that are expected to drive big business in the next couple of months.  Ever After High dolls: After the success of its Monster High dolls, Mattel decided to expand into the realm of fairy tales with Ever After High. Featuring characters like Apple White, Hunter Huntsman and Madeline Hatter, the line features the children of popular fairy tale characters and casts them in a high school setting. The dolls are divided into Royals, who are destined to lived happily ever after, and Rebels, who want to change their destinies. Ever After High dolls can be pre-ordered for about $20.  Minion Dave talking action figure: DreamWorks' Despicable Me 2 was one of the biggest box-office hits of the year, pulling in more than $350 million this summer. So it's no surprise that the movie has spawned a line of popular toys. There are a variety of Despicable Me toys out there — everything from small figures to Despicable Me Monopoly — but the big-ticket item for this Christmas are the collector's edition toys. The minions, in particular are expected to sell fast, like the Minion Dave Talking Action Figure. It's pricey for an action figure, retailing for as much as $70, but it has plenty of features to justify that expense. The figure comes with talking-sound effects, changeable expressions, fart sounds and — the real selling point — "super fart sounds."   Disney's Infinity game: Video games do big business in the fourth quarter, and Disney is looking to double up on the spike in video game and toy sales with its Disney Infinity game. Infinity, released earlier this year, is a video game that uses toys with near-field communication technology. The toys show up in the game, which means if you want to play as, say, Buzz Lightyear, you have to buy the Buzz Lightyear toy first. It's a great method for extortion profit-making, first pioneered by Activision's Skylanders series of video games. Speaking of which, the latest Skylanders game...  Skylanders: SWAP Force: Was set to release on Oct. 13, and should be another Christmas hit. Disney Infinity retails for around $60, and SWAP Force will release at $75; both include starter toys, and are available across multiple platforms.   PlayStation 4 and XBox: One Most eyes in the video game industry will be on Microsoft and Sony after they release their next-gen consoles, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. The new consoles are upgrades of systems that have been around for more than six years, which means gamers are eager for new specs, better graphics and (hopefully) improved game play. Both consoles are boasting wide catalogs of launch titles, including entries from Activision, Electronic Arts and others,  The PlayStation 4 released Friday for about $400, while the Xbox One launch today Nov. 22 for around $500.   Imaginext Batcave Superheros: Never go out of style, and Mattel is looking to capitalize on that with the next Imaginext Batcave through its Fisher-Price brand. The Batcave spans multiple levels (with an elevator for convenient travel) and includes Batman and Robin figures. Kids (or Batman-obsessed adults) can monitor the Joker on the Batcomputer, fly around in the Batwing glider and even drive Batman around on the Batcycle. The Batcave retails for about $40 and does not come with superpowers.

When a toy or game is out of stock

You have to figure out what they want for the holidays, and then buy the items at the best price you can possibly get, without over-spending of course. Especially when you are shopping for clothes. You have to make sure you get the right size(s) and make sure that the clothes and accessories meets their approval as well. I actually enjoy the feeling of shopping for children during the holidays. Just the look on their faces when they open the gifts it's all worth it.

But what about when a toy or game is out of stock?

Ensure this holiday season you don't break the bank

The holiday season is filled with wonderful times, good friends and the excitement of your children running to see what those beautifully wrapped presents might contain. Independent Toddler

The toddler’s main activity is to learn by playing with games and toys. The toddler is not able to read. It is up to the teacher to allow the toddler to explore his environment with the use of learning games and playing with toys.  Because, there is no reading comprehension involved with teaching toddler, the ability to work with others is exemplified. It is important that the teacher of toddler allow the child to learn at an early age the importance of getting along with other classmates.  The games that teacher introduces should be about working in teams to obtain a result. The games can be as simple as one team being of one color and the other team being another color. The object of the game could be for all of the red team to walk upon a white line. The team with the most players able to perform this task would win the game. That means that the toddler needs to know to do the best job possible for the benefit of the team.  Being a team player can be taught to toddlers when reading and understanding words had not yet been introduced. Teaching toddlers is a chore and is not for those who lack energy. The toddler needs to be taught how to remain in one place as not to disrupt the class. There are a myriad of rules involved in teaching toddlers how to behave themselves versus reading and understanding words in a book. Reading would not have been introduced to the toddler, therefore learning how to behave is very important during the child development years.  Not only does teaching toddlers involve learning teamwork and proper behavior, there also should be lessons in being independent. The toddler who is able to get the restroom before an accident or is able to participate in team work should also have a sense of independence. A sense of independence teaches the child to be self-reliant which promote self-confidence. Building blocks to learning

When looking at developmentally appropriate activities for children it is important to remember there are building blocks to learning.  A child can not jump to writing and reading without first understanding these concepts even exist.  I recommend going to www.naeyc.org (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and reading some articles and books on appropriate activities for toddlers. Toddlers need to learn how to palm and then pincer grip in order to hold and eventually control a crayon or pencil for writing. Encouraging free drawing (even if its scribbles) helps with this gross motor to fine motor transition.  Toddlers are in a sensory developing stage. Introduce audio, visual, tactile, smell and taste activities. scented playdoh, sand, water, goop, sandpaper, water and finger painting, sound games etc are wonderful for developing these sensory processing parts of the brain. Reading Reading Reading - very important.  Label everything in your house with a picture and one word. Door, Bed, Kitchen, Backyard, Dog, Cat, Stairs, etc. Gives toddlers the understanding that what we say is also written. Gives them the word to the visual picture.  Teach everything has a place - encourage and help them to put things away to learn structure and appropriate behavior. Organize objects by color, shape, type, size. Give your toddler a large bucket of objects and help them sort. Then leave the bucket out so they can manipulate it when they feel like it. Girls do this more then boys but be open. You never know what will spark in a child when given an intentional environment.   All kids are Precious! Toddlers are super curious and interested in everything around them.

They do also think they are the center of it all. They learn by experiencing their world and through play.  They should be allowed to interact in a safe way with their surroundings.  For example, when they are outside they should be free to explore but not among dangerous plants or terrain. At a playground, they should be limited to the structures for their age range. Inside, their play areas should be safe, and any objects left for them to play with should not be breakable or toxic.  Toddlers love to touch and can learn by feeling all different textures. This works well with items around the house such as fabrics, woods, metals, foods, etc.  Toddlers also learn through imitation. It is very important to speak to them often using the correct words for all of the things that they see and do. Reading aloud to toddlers also is very important in the development of their speech and will help them become good readers and writers in the future. They love to see different facial expressions and to play peek-a-boo.  Toddlers should also spend time with other toddlers. These ‘play dates’ should be highly supervised. Although the toddlers may just be doing side-by-side play, they are learning to use their imagination and develop appropriate social skills.  Most importantly, toddlers learn love by spending quality time with their families. I cannot stress this enough...

Teaching toddlers takes A Lot of patience.  I think that their brains are moving way too fast to slow down and take in what you are trying to teach them! It is not impossible to teach them new things, but again, it takes patience. I remember just watching my kids play at ages 2 or 3, and the imagination that they had at such a young ages really surprised me. Sometimes a child will just decide that they are ready for something, and you are not even aware that they are going to do that something new until they do it on their own.  One day they could be afraid to be in their room alone, and the next day their they are, in that room digging everything out of a toy box, and sitting in the box pretending to be driving a car!  You just never know what a small child will or won't do, and that is the fun of it...the unexpected! I guess the easiest way to teach a toddler whatever it is that you want them to know is just to get their attention, and do whatever it is that you want to learn.  Children often "mimic" what other people do. It may or may not work the first time they are shown, but keep repeating it and one day they will do whatever it is on their own, and you will be able to move on to something new!  Don't forget a two or three year old brain is just like your kitchen sponge. Teaching toddler is an enjoyable and rewarding thing to do.

It is fun to watch them finally pick up on things that your trying to teach them, whether that be to swing a baseball bat or write a letter the right way. They are so crazy energetic that it does take some time to get used to. Toddlers are just so adventurous which is the one negative of teaching them because you always have to be watching them. The second you take your eye off of one of the kids they can slip off without you even knowing.  Whether it is your own blood or not helping toddlers learn is awesome. Teaching of the parents and teachers of a toddler may differ.

Teaching toddlers is sometimes hard, time consuming and can seem like a job in itself. This is however very rewarding for parents, grand parents and other close relatives that try their hand at teaching these children or have their children taught by someone else.  Daycare facilities and early preschool teachers take the tedious task of teaching toddlers for a price while some volunteer and thoroughly enjoy doing it. Sometimes hiring someone to tutor/teach your child is the best way to go about it. I'll present an example to express how the teaching of the parents and teachers of a toddler differ. Let's say little Jimmy is age 3 and trying to learn his colors. The stay at home mom (Sally) tries to teach him the colors with crayons. She comes up with her own strategy of making a mark on paper with the crayon pointing at it and saying the color repeatedly to her son hoping that he will understand. After days of the repeated method Jimmy still doesn't comprehend well. Sally becomes frustrated with the process and enrolls him in preschool. The teacher (Mrs.Mary) takes a different approach with her given materials such as work sheets, crayons and brightly colored objects.  She first instructs Jimmy to look at the objects such as a bright red ball as well as blue and let's him compare the color of the ball with the red crayon. After a few hours he comprehends what color is, learns the colors and moves on to the next lesson. Jimmy knows how to write his numbers up to ten already. The work sheet is a coloring page with big numbers in black and white.  She instructs him to color certain numbers red and others blue. Not only is she teaching him colors but sharpening his skills on his already known numbers. All within the day he has learned his colors and enhanced his skills of identifying numbers; finishing two tasks at once.  Sally picks Jimmy up from preschool and on the drive home he's telling his mother all about colors and numbers and she's so excited, proud and relieved.  Sometimes a professional teacher is the best option. Some toddlers take to learning easier and it's best to spend that time trying to teach your child at least once to see what approach he/she will take best. Every toddlers a unique person and should be treated as such. Teaching toddlers is a challenging but rewarding experience.

By mastering a few simple strategies you can avoid frustration and make your efforts more effective.  First, it is important to keep in mind that young people have a very short attention span at this age. Pay careful attention to notice when they are engaged and when they need to take a break. Schedule intervals of about 10 minutes or less for going over new material. Then, give the child time to play and move around.  Another thing to consider is that small children often understand much more than they can articulate yet. It is easy for them to feel stressed because they have a hard time putting things into words. Be patient and give a child time to express themselves. Ask relevant questions. Make suggestions. Try throwing out some ideas of your own that they can respond to. Toddlers will respond eagerly to the assistance that you give them. Most of all, strive to instill a love for learning. At this stage, the process is more important than the immediate results. If a child has fun and wants to read more, you have done a great job.  The point is to pique their curiosity and show them how to explore new worlds. Once they have the right attitude and skills, they will have a much easier time mastering whatever facts they may need in the future and getting good grades. Patience, patience, patience

Teaching kids requires an enormous amount of patience. I have also learned that you have to show young children tenderness because they are very sensitive. You too have to be sensitive and energetic to keep the child's attention. Another factor to teaching kids is making the learning experience fun.  I think another key factor in teaching children is you have to have rewards for good work done. I love positive reinforcement!!!  Make sure whatever subject your introducing them to has very abstract colorful learning tools so its exciting for the kid or should I say toddler. The reason I think teachers of toddlers should have a lot of patience is because toddlers have very short attention span. So it may take some time to get the small children to focus.  When dealing with this type of behavior it can sometime be very frustrating but we must remember we are dealing with small children that might not yet grasp the full concept of what you are presenting to them.  That's when the tenderness comes in you have to let them know its alright if they seem to struggle at first just have a little patience and they will slowly start to pick it up. Just remember to keep encouraging them.  Some ways to make the learning experience fun are to turn the lesson into a game and incorporate prizes. Teaching Toddler a full-time job?

Teaching toddlers is like having a full-time job. It takes a lot of patience and determination to be an effective teacher at any level.  In my experiences with toddlers a lot of repetitive examples and hands on demonstration seems to be extremely beneficial. Also rewarding for correct information recall of taught information will help reinforce the curriculum.  A lot of the production relies on you the teacher though too. Having the patience to teach things that are routine to you as the teacher is essential to the toddler being able to comprehend the information being taught. Interacting with children of similar ages will also be a good forum of learning among peers.  Comprehensive television programming is a good idea as well during down time so that learning is still being cultivated. Good examples of this would be Super Why, Signing Time, other shows geared towards youth learning.

Teaching Toddlers

Teaching toddlers can be fun and the best teachers find that toddlers will teach them as much or more than they are able to teach the toddler. We teach our toddlers basic academic information, such as shapes colors and counting, but one of my favorite learning activities is when I focus on enhancing what they are naturally discovering anyway.  The most important things they need to learn are that they are wonderful and loved. They need to know that their thoughts and questions are important and meaningful. That means putting down the electronics, and giving our little ones face time. They must learn that grownups are kind and available. It also means spending time. Not just a few minutes a day.   In order to be available when they need to learn, we need to available and aware as much as possible. A great way to teach our toddlers well, is to let them “help” us. Treat your children, no matter their age as assets. That means giving responsibility. Even a walking child can get things and help with small tasks.   Finally, teach toddlers to enjoy the world around them. This can be organized or spontaneous. But teach them about the beauty of nature, the amazing way things work, and the ways that they can move and use their bodies. Teaching manners is not an easy job

Teaching manners is not an easy job.  It is very difficult job and it is very important because it will be a life long lesson. It can be done in a step by step manner.  Let us begin with two or three small words like “thank you”, “sorry”. While teaching these types of words, we can also use signs along with this so that children can remember in an easy manner. One thing to remember that once you introduce manners, just continue to practice it while you introduce other words and manners.  It will be a difficult task and it takes time, but the young ones are smart enough to catch it. An important thing to remember is that parents and the elder ones are the mirror for children. Be a role model good listening by showing that you are listening your child by imitating and reflecting what your child says.  They will imitate whatever they saw. So always remember to behave properly in front of little ones. Must have very patience while teaching a toddler. It is very nice that instead of ordering, try to make choice for them. Always limit the use of directions and questions. Use positive terms that tell your child what to do. Use games and playful language to teach your child to listen. A child resistant behavior cannot be change in an easy manner. Responding harshly or with criticism only make their behavior worse. Teaching Patience

Patience is a virtue that can be instilled in children. Patience teaches children the value of delaying gratification, a skill necessary for maturity. Patience can help develop the ability to think through and resolve problems; it can counteract impulsively and acting out behaviors.  The value of patience lies in its ability to lead to inner calm and emotional strength of character. Teaching patience by example helps children learn resilience, self-containment, and the ability to self-soothe. These are qualities needed for emotional maturity.  General Tips for Parents on Teaching Patience to Children: Teach by modeling.Refrain from snapping impatiently at your children. Use "no-shaming" techniques to help your child understand that she or he may need to wait or take some time before a need is addressed or request is fulfilled. Take time to look at the child and listen carefully when she is talking to you.  Giving your attention even when you are distracted or busy shows the quality of patience more clearly than words can explain it.   And remember All kids are Precious!

Working from home...

Working from home and the limitless flexibility it provides is perfect for me and my daughter.

If I was not working from home I would have to miss all my daughters' milestones. I chose to be a WAHM (work at home mom), so that I would be able to watch her grow, and teach her.

I know that in a school she would not have learned nearly as much as I've taught her in just these 3 years. Why because when I considered school for her, I contacted them and they all said they would put her with the 2-3 year olds. But for me this was unacceptable, because she's already on a Kindergarten-early 1st grade level and they want to put her with the little children that learn through play.

There is nothing wrong with learning through play but I have already been down that road with her, I mean she is reading and writing, knows basic addition and is fluent in 3 different languages. (English, Spanish, and American Sign Language)

Point is, if I had a traditional 9-5 I would not have been able to stay hands on with my daughter when it came to her studies.

To lie or not to lie...

So Christmas is coming up and I have been battling with if I should tell my daughter the kid version of Santa Clause, that he was a friendly man that gave gifts to needy etc.

After Christmas is Easter so will I tell her about this Easter Bunny.

Well lets be honest I have already told her that Santa Clause was a very giving man but in no way shape or form is he coming to our house to bring gifts. I tell her that people really close to her that loves her bought  her a bunch of gifts. Simple and no need to lie!

And the Easter Bunny I will get to that soon.

But my whole thing is why teach our children not to lie and remain honest, when we are doing all of the lying to them?

We lie about Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, The Tooth Fairy, and so much other things, I will not lie to my child.

In my years I have seen many children heart-broken when they find out none of these characters are real. They cry, they have nightmares and it's sad that we as parents allow things like this to hurt our children.

A proud Mommy!

So my biggest thing with my daughter is spelling, words, sentences etc. Anything that has to do with letters of the alphabet I work on with her everyday.

I usually give my daughter work in every area every day but today I tried a different approach.

I made her do a little writing, and word practice, and set up a spelling test for her to take.

Please keep in mind that my daughter, M'kylee (pronounced mah-ky-lee) is 3 years of age.

She got 27 out of 30 words right!

Kids never cease to amaze me!

 I have been surfing the web and came across this story about a little 9 year old boy that becomes Nigeria’s youngest Microsoft certified professional.

What?

This gives me so much hope for what my daughter may be capable of doing in a few years.

This little boy is definitely a good example for other young children because even at a young age he did not give up. He failed the first attempt and did what he had to do to pass the second time around!

ABCMouse?

Does ABCMouse.com work?

In my opinion, yes it does!

My daughter began ABCMouse.com when she was 2 and a half and she loved it from day one.

• She finally had the chance to play on mommy's computer,
• She picked up on the work quickly (through a lot of repetition) 
• It increase the knowledge she already had.
• She is learning phonics and has began reading (check the video posted on September 7, 2013 M'Kylee Reading 
• She graduated the Toddler Time in one month (over 400 activities her first month!)
• She is now on level 2 in the Preschool level (close to being on level 3)
• She ask to do work on ABCMouse.com at least twice a day

The list could go on, but why? The proof is in the pudding. Yes, I home school her and she have to complete my curriculum before doing ABCMouse but we both love it nonetheless!

What is this new thing?

So my daughter is entering this scream and cry stage.

 If she does something and I send her to time out, she sits there and scream "NO!"

Arrgh, what is this new thing?

I do not like it at all, and it's freaking me out every time because she does it differently.

What actually makes this worse is that she is starting to do this in front of visitors, and it is kind of embarrassing.

But a thinking mommy always come up with a good idea.

What have I started doing, since shes' started this screaming and "NO!" thing.

Well, I now sit her in a quiet room with a book and tell her to read. She loves looking for words she knows, so she actually enjoys her reading time spurts. Now instead of time-out, with no progress I get her to calm down and to read at one time. After she read, I ask her to acknowledge her behavior and apologize and I tell her why/how what she did was no good.

Amazing thinking on my behalf to switch it up a bit, but I'm sure there's much more to come.
So at least I'm thinking of new ways of discipline. Yay smart momma!

Not Latina Enough?

So this beautiful little girl won the Little Miss Hispanic Delaware  but was forced to return title after she is accused of not being "Latina Enough."

Once she won it must have been some talk about her not being of Latin Heritage, because she was so dark. 

She was asked to provide documentation of her being of Latino Heritage, but she qualified to compete in the first place because her grandmother was born in the Dominican Republic, so that made up the 25% needed.

My wise aunt...

So my aunt was talking to me and she said "why don't you share the things you are doing with M'Kylee?"

I mean I would love to share what I do with her and how she is progressing but how.

So she began telling me that I am an expert because I do these things every day.

Duh, why didn't I think of that? I mean really, an expert is someone that knows a lot about one or more topics.

That's Me!

I am an expert in being a mother because I am a mother everyday.
I am an expert in teaching a baby/ toddler sign language because I have done it for 3 years now.
I am an expert in teaching a toddler abc's, 123's, basic addition, reading, matching, spelling etc because that's just what I do.

I know what I want to teach her and so I do it.

I practice it everyday to get better.


And guess what? Now I share what I do with her, how and why.

Yay me, I am a new found expert. I mean 3 and a half years, I think I am more than just an expert. I have the experience and I have been through  trial error.

So take your passion and you can be doing and living off of what you love to do. Like me!

Breastfeeding Queen...

This is the topic that I actually get a lot of buzz about.

Why because I recently (6 months ago) stopped breastfeeding my daughter.

And anyone who knows me know that I was very motivated and head-strong about breastfeeding.

There are so many benefits, I mean if more women were educated about breastfeeding then more women would do it.

Benefits of breastfeeding include:

• Promotes a healthy bond between mother and child
• Helps fight breast cancer
• Helps your uterus snap back in shape (thus allowing your body to get rid of some unwanted weight
• It carries all of the proteins and vitamins, and pro-biotics that helps keep your child healthy
• It has yet to be duplicated (cannot duplicate the best, that's why now they have breast milk donations) and honestly Cow milk is for Heifers.
• etc.

 Look it up, do your own research, do not take my word for it I am educated on breastfeeding.

Any who, I loved breastfeeding, and would do it all over again.

It was kind of hard to stop and when I did and my milk dried up my little Lee Lee said "Mommy lets go get milk out of the fridge." She made me laugh and it was hard explaining that it would not be that easy but she's coming around. However, right before I started weening her I did start feeling weird because she was tall for her to be 2 (she looked like a 3-4 year old) and she would be hanging off of my lap while she was breastfeeding so I think it was getting uncomfortable for the both of us. Just stop when you are ready do not let anyone pressure you to stop. The longer the better... I wanted to breastfeed her until she was like 4 but can you say WEIRD really loud. I did and realized that it was time.

Every now and again she will say "mommy, may I have Tetas," and I just have to remind her that she is a big girl and that tetas are for babies.

So please just remember All kids are Precious and breastfeeding is the best way! (I did not say the only way)

Homeschool Benefits...

Why should I let M'Kylee learn at home rather than send her to school?

Well, first of all, I don't have to wake them up early every
morning and rush her off to school with umpteen numbers of
instructions, and wait with an anxious heart until she return.

Honestly homeschooling gives me more control over the influences that
affect my daughter. Me, and me alone can decide what she needs to do or learn. Tailoring
the curriculum to suit the needs and interests of the child is one of the most obvious benefits of homeschooling.

Individual attention is another salient benefit of
homeschooling. She can work on the subjects she needs more help with, as long as she needs to.

The amount of time needed to learn each subject will depend on the abilities and interests of the child.

Field trips and experiments become family activities. Thus,
the child receives more quality time with his parents. The
entire family shares games, chores and projects. Family
closeness becomes the focus here. The child is also free of
any negative peer pressure while making choices and decisions.



Our recent Field Trip was to the Railroad museum. She loved getting on the big trains and we even took a ride on one of the tour trains.

Competition is limited when it comes to homeschooling. M'kylee does not need to prove her ability with regards to other children. Her confidence remains intact.

Learning becomes fun.

I also tailor the curriculum to
suit the learning style of M'kylee. For instance to get her to learn how to spell (examine) I had to write the word so she can become familiar with seeing it, then I would have to spell it and let her repeat me, then I would have to finger spell the word and then teach her the sign that goes with the word. Without me signing the word and finger spelling it just does not stick.

Homeschooling allows me to take control over her moral and
religious learning. I have the flexibility to
incorporate her beliefs and ideologies into the her curriculum.
There is no confusion in the her mind either because there is
no variation between what is being taught and what is being practiced.

Lastly, more and more parents are getting disillusioned with the
public school system. They believe that their children are being
pushed too hard or too little. Other worrying issues pertaining to
discipline and ethics also make the school system less welcome. Many
repudiate the educational philosophy of grouping children solely on
the basis of their age. Some parents, myself included, themselves have unhappy memories
of their own public school experience that motivates them to opt for
homeschooling when it comes to their own children. 

Homeschooling is the best way to teach a child if you have the time,
the ability and the interest to follow through with his/her education. After
all, nobody can understand or appreciate your child more than You.


But if you do not have the time and know of someone that is homeschooling their children, and would like your child to be involved then you can work with that person to teach your child.

A Quick Video...

Just made a video of my daughter doing some reading practice. I cannot stress the importance of teaching our children. Teach, teach, and teach some more. Knowledge is Power. I teach my daughter anything I can think of.

If we're out for a stroll and we see some pretty flowers we take pictures of them and do research. Then we'd do a flower hunt, where we would go walking and collect the different flowers and glue them on a piece of construction paper. This makes for a good flower collage that she can look at and learn the different flowers.

Just be creative, keep it interesting, and keep teaching.

9 year old driver?

Well in Panama, FL a young nine year old little girl was very courageous.

Her father became sick while driving, and she bravely took over, while still in the back of the car, and rushed him to a nearby hospital.

Wow, this is amazing and I am just glad that she did not get into any accidents, because this story could have been a lot worse.

Precious Little Chicago Girl!

Thessalonika Arzu-Embry, was a bright young home-schooled child until age 8, in which she excelled and received an equivalent of a high school diploma.

She was taught along with her brother, by her mother who is a Veteran in the U.S. Navy.

Now this young lady is 14 years old and graduating Chicago State University with a 3.9 G.P.A. and a  Bachelor's Degree in Psychology.

Step-Parents

Wow, what a touchy topic for me.

I have been a step-mother for about 7 years. It was hard in the beginning you know dealing with the awkwardness of being around another woman who had a relations with my boyfriend.

But over the years things have gotten better.

Do you know it took my oldest daughter about 4 years to tell me she loved me. That was because all she heard was negative things about me, from her mom. But as she spent more and more time with me she noticed I am a good person and love her and her sister.

That was a very special day for me, because i would kiss her and her sister goodnight and she would never say "I love you," back to me.

But I love them to death especially now we have bonded over the years and they have high respect for me and that makes me happy! I have my own 3 precious kids!



On that note I love you Brenaya, Senai, and M'kylee!

Poor little precious kids...

This again, I went to the store and saw this young lady yank her child up by his shirt because he would not stop running in the store.

I mean really is all of that really necessary?

It's so sad, as an ex-abused child I could feel this little boy pain. He was already embarrassed because she was yelling and cursing at him but to yank him up he look shocked and hurt.

Whoo, as mentioned in a past post I am totally against hitting of any kind toward a child. I mean they are so innocent. And to me hitting is an unnecessary way to gain and maintain control.

I have control without the hitting. My daughter has her timeouts for anywhere between 1-5 minutes. Then before she is released from timeout she must acknowledge what she did, then apologize.

The catch to time out though for me is that wherever she acts out she goes in time out right then and there.

For instance, if we go to the Kmart and she acts up I give her 2 warnings and if she still does not listen then she will go in timeout right there where she is misbehaving.

On that note I am against hitting of any kind towards a child that cannot properly defend him/herself.

My apologies...

Hello all,

I have been so busy the past week, getting things ready for my daughter's birthday that I have not checked in. My apologies go out to my loyal readers and I appreciate you sticking with me.

On another note, her family dinner at grandmas house was a success and and she had a blast. Had basic things such as: balloons, pinata (filled with candy of course), happy birthday banner, presents, family, food and cake. Below is a picture of her cake, she is now 3 years old.

PPD?

As a kid growing up i was always alone, with a mother in and out of my life. I just could never be a kid and do kid things. Instead I grew up early because I did not have the proper guidance. I later was passed on to my grandmother, who abused me. So I could not trust anyone only myself.

After being placed in foster care and being treated poorly, I had to take care of myself. At the young tender age of 14, I had to lie and steal just to eat or have somewhere to sleep...sad.

Anywho, after maintaining for almost a year on my own I finally turned myself back in to foster care and went through a psycological evaluation. I found out that I was suffering from depression. I mean I did not have anyone, again, I was always alone, a lonely kid.

long story short...Im ok or at least I thought I was until I got pregnant at 21. My OBGYN told me I may suffer from PPD (postpartum depression.)

And guess what I did suffer from it after my beautiful daughter was born. After about a week of her being home I started feeling really sad, worthless, like I didn't matter, like I wanted and yearned for so much help, again I was always alone but now with a little baby. I became very angry and even my eating habits had changed.

Conventional medicinal system depends on antidepressants and muscle relaxants to cure the signs of postpartum depression. Drugs have side effects.

On that note I decided to try a holistic approach to treat the signs of postpartum depression with natural and herbal cures that are safe. I found PPD Miracle and I am very grateful that this was created and available when I felt like I had no other options.

 A careful alteration in diet, adopting of a suitable exercise regime, and counseling also helped treat postpartum depression permanently.

Now my daughter is 2 and happily planning for my second baby. Of course, this time, I would be prepared before hand for any baby blues!

I could not be more overwhelmed with happiness. She definitely keeps me busy and I definaitely know that there's no need to be depressed because she brings me so much joy and gives my life that much more purpose.

Just a quick thought...

To baby talk or not to baby talk?

Personally, I recommend "No Baby Talk." Why because while baby talk is cute it will become very confusing.

What I mean by this is, you are an adult so how can you teach a baby, baby talk? They already speak baby talk and our job as parents is to teach them whatever language we want our child to know.

To me it just causes confusion. Baby voice okay but no baby talk please!

In my case we have never spoken baby talk to her and I wanted my child to know English, Spanish, and American Sign Language, and she does.

So remember "ALL kids are Precious"

Why signing may help your child...

American Sign Language  employs signs made by moving the hands combined with facial expressions and postures of the body. 

I was flipping through the channels one day when my daughter was 7 months old and came across a show called "Signing Time."  My daughter and I watched it and the signs I learned that day I worked with her the entire day, over and over.

I did this continuously and by 13 months she showed me she could sign. Her first sign was  "all done!" 

Now of course in the beginning I was getting discouraged because she would not mimic me or anything. But that day she first signed was great, and very much unexpected. I felt a sense of relief, like yes, she was paying attention.

Anyways her signing definitely reduced her tantrums. 

Do you know why babies cry and throw tantrums?

This is due to lack of knowing how to communicate and get their point across.

If your baby could say "mom, may I have milk please," there would be no need to sit and cry and scream until you figured out your baby wanted milk. Right?!

Now she is 35 months (2 years old), and she still loves it. She still watches the SigningTime dvd's every day as part of her curriculum. Plus kids are full of energy why not teach them a hands on second language that will keep them moving.
